All Things Surrogate and Media/News

There is always something new and sometimes crazy happening in the media about surrogacy, whether we are talking about other countries (have you heard the latest about Singapore) or celebs here in the good ole USA.

A few weeks ago, Singapore overturned a ruling from 2017 allowing a gay Singaporean the right to adopt a child he fathered using a surrogate here in the US! Previously this right was only granted to heterosexual couples. "The evidence has demonstrated to us that it is very much in the interests of the Child that the adoption order be made, having regard principally to the fact that his prospects of acquiring Singapore citizenship could be significantly enhanced." (CNN) Isn’t this great!

Gabrielle Union and Dwaye Wade had their first child born with a surrogate Nov. 7, 2018. “A LOVELY DAY 👶🏾👶🏾👶🏾 We are sleepless and delirious but so excited to share that our miracle baby arrived last night via surrogate and 11/7 will forever be etched in our hearts as the most loveliest of all the lovely days,” a caption on a photo they posted (people.com).

Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker are considering surrogacy. Burruss comented “Todd and I are both nervous about it,” she said. “I think it’s easier for Todd to handle or deal with because as a man he’s used to somebody else carrying the baby. But for me it’s a little bit harder for me to deal with the thought because I’m supposed to carry my own kids in my mind. But, hey, with science, it’s made other options to be able to make it happen.” (people.com). They came to the decision after talking with her doctor, Dr. Walters, about surrogacy as “a great option” after having conception problems of her own.

Jessica Chastain and husband Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo welcomed their first child using a surrogate in 2017, says Yahoo.com. Although there is not much about their story on using a surrogate as they keep their personal lives private. She has now joined the like of Kim Kardashian, Katy Segal and Nate Burkas! There are even rumors of Gwen Stefani and Blake Sheldon using a surrogate to have a baby.

Do you watch “This Is Us”? They have been hinting, even if ever so slightly, that surrogacy might be an option they discuss coming up! What about “Fuller House”? This season is supposed to be focusing on Kimmy being Stephanie’s surrogate!

On another related topic, did you see that the first baby was born to a woman with a transplanted uterus!  This transplant and birth happened in Brazil, the transplant was in 2016 and birth in December 2017!  This woman also had to undergo an IVF procedure, much like a surrogate, in order to conceive.

Luckily, infertility and the talk about surrogacy is becoming more main stream, especially with amazing women speaking up about it. Michelle Obama has opened up about their struggles with infertility, and wanting it to be a more open conversation, along with Shawn Johnson and Carrie Underwood, just to name a few. Many woman desire and struggle to have children.
